Step 1: Confirm it’s Wi‑Fi (not your internet)

  • Test with an Ethernet cable (if possible). If Ethernet is also slow, the ISP line or router is the issue.
  • Run a speed test near the router, then in the problem room.

Step 2: Fix the common dropouts

  1. Reboot properly: modem/ONT → router → mesh nodes (one at a time).
  2. Update firmware on your router/mesh system.
  3. Split 2.4GHz/5GHz if devices keep hopping networks (common with smart devices).

Step 3: Improve coverage (dead zones)

  • Move the router higher and central (avoid cupboards and behind TVs).
  • Use a mesh Wi‑Fi system for larger homes/offices.
  • For the best results, use Ethernet backhaul for mesh nodes.

Step 4: Reduce congestion and interference

  • Change channels (especially for 2.4GHz).
  • Keep routers away from microwaves, cordless phones, and thick concrete walls.
